This native Vermont hand peeled cedar log home was built beginning in the late summer of 2002 with subsequent construction work on the property every year since. The original design for the interior layout evolved with significant changes to the interior by request of the owner. The main living floorplan was changed from having three bedrooms to a single master suite, all of which was seamlessly created with the desired look and finish.

Many smaller projects both interior and exterior have been completed since the intial build, including a walkout first floor with 2 bedrooms, a full bath, a recreation area, and most recently in the fall of 2009, their own Garage Mahal, a very large native Vermont cedar log building with housing for 4 cars and additional storage.

This particular house posed many challenges, from the sloping, granite-based lot on which it is built, to the many angular features of the house design itself. However, many rock-clearing dynamite blasts later, the pride and attention to detail we are known for resulted in not only a beautiful site for a house, but an incredibly beautiful contemporary home with many unique touches born from the attention to detail we always strive to accomplish.

The numerous skylights with vaulted openings are not only splayed to reduce the opening from large to small, but the sides of which also follow a curve so that the perspective the eye sees is a flowing opening. The hallway to the bedrooms also is set at an angle and the walls to the bedrooms and bath are also not square to the hallway. The vaulted ceilings give this home a feeling of openness and comfort unique to any dwelling.

Click To See ImagesWhat do you do with a huge boulder that has sat in your yard since time began? You build a deck on top of it from which to enjoy the surrounding scenery. That is what one of our favorite clients asked us to do earlier this fall. By huge, I mean this boulder is about 30' in diameter and about 15' high. The project was interesting and challenging in that it was necessary to build a way up on to the rock with a set of steps first built next to the rock then turn and head up the surface of the fairly steep side slope ending at a place where a deck would be built. The surface on the top of the rock was fairly flat, however, the client chose to increase the size of the deck from the original ideas and we ended up building the deck somewhat cantilevered over the front face of the boulder, which drops off very steeply on the front side it. It all came together quite nicely and sits on top like it has always been there. What a quiet place to enjoy a peaceful sanctuary.

What began several years ago as building a screen porch on the pond side of this weekend cabin, quickly grew to be much more. After one or so seasons with the screen porch, the owners decided to do an expansion which included lifting the cabin, porch and all, many feet in the air to allow for the digging of a full foundation, which, when completed, gave the family much more living space. The pond side of this improvement was a walkout wall with a slider as well as 2 sliding windows to the pond. Many upgrades to the interior and exterior were part of this overall improvement, including a new master bedroom. Work progressed over the next couple years to closing in the screened porch, now making it a full 3 season plus room. All that was missing was the proper size garage to store their vehicles in as well as affording plenty of storage space. The garage was a 2009 project that turned out just as they had hoped and is fully utilized today.

PLCTJC Construction does everything from full home designs and builds, to smaller projects like decks, docks, encasements, and furniture restoration.

In this collection, the deck/dock was originally built using composite decking. With the durability and lifespan of the product really not well forecast at the time it was built, this year the owner opted to resurface the deck using pressure treated decking. A vast improvement over it's old surface.

Two old furniture pieces, extremely crafted over a century ago, were in need of some restoration. Both the ice chest refrigerator and the desk were completely stripped down to the raw wood, whose wood grain had been totally made invisible through many layers of shellac over the years. There restored finish gave them back their original luster for a perfect accent piece in the house.

The column that was located in the center of the house, constructed to support the roof structure of this octagon house, also had within it the woodstove and chimney pipe  used to help heat the home. The owners wanted to make the column look like it belonged there and  also to accent it's own beauty of design by finishing it  with wood trim and sheetrock.  They were quite pleased with the result and actually made Tom sign the base of the unit , saying to them it was a work of art. .
